Joe Biden is set to make his first trip to the United Kingdom since the coronation of King Charles III next week, as the President of the United States of America heads to Europe for a number of diplomatic meetings with Rishi Sunak alongside leaders from Lithuania and Finland. The latter country has become the most recent member to join NATO, after Vladimir Putin’s unlawful occupation of the eastern parts of Ukraine over a year ago.

Scheduled to be in the United Kingdom between July 9 and July 13, Biden’s itinerary includes an audience with King Charles III, whose coronation was attended by Jill Biden and their granddaughter Finnegan Biden but however attended Queen Elizabeth's funeral at Westminster Abbey in September, where he and his family also attended a reception hosted by the King for world leaders

Biden will also meet with current UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, to further strengthen the close relationship between the United States and the UK. The leaders are expected to discuss various topics, including Ukraine, the post-Brexit economy, and the pros and cons of Artificial Intelligence.

The visit reflects the strong relationship between the two nations, as stated by both the White House and Downing Street in their respective statements, as both current serving world leaders face battles with rising inflation and discourse in both the Supreme Court and Houses of Parliament recently.

After his visit to the UK, Biden will continue to attend the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, and the US-Nordic Leaders Summit in Helsinki, Finland, where discussions will likely focus on the Russia-Ukraine war, before returning to the United States to once again prepare for the impending US Presidential Elections scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
