While Star Wars holds the reputation of a huge Hollywood blockbuster, many scenes from the franchise through the years have actually been shot in the UK, in places that you can visit.
These are just some of the locations around the UK that you can visit that make appearances in the Star Wars films.
1. Puzzlewood
Puzzlewood, in Coleford, provided the backdrop for where Rey first encounters Kylo Ren. Star Wars Producer and President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, described Puzzlewood as “the most magical forest on the face of the earth”. The forest has also appeared in the likes of Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows, Jack the Giant Slayer and in all five seasons of BBC programme Merlin. Photo: Shutterstock
2. Whippendell Wood
Whippendell Wood was used as the location for the Gungan Forest in Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace, released in 1999. The woods doubled as a forest on the planet of Naboo, whose inhabitants live underwater. The ancient woodland is found on the edges of Watford, and is open to the public to explore. 3. RAF Cardington
The former Royal Air Force station in Bedfordshire, England, appeared in both A New Hope and Rogue One films in the franchise. Shed one was used to represent the Rebel base on Yavin 4 in the 1977 film, and Shed two was later used as the Yavin base in the 2016 film. Tours of the station are available. Photo: Shutterstock
4. Lake District
In 2014, a visual effects team for Star Wars: The Force Awakens visited the Lake District to shoot some background scenes, which CGI was then added onto later. Some of the Lake District filming locations included Derwentwater, Thirlmere, Blencathra and Catbells. Photo: Shutterstock
