Asda sandals recall: Ladies Double Buckle Flatbed Sandal in lilac and sage taken off shelves as trim contains too much nickel

Asda is having to recall its George Ladies Double Buckle Flatbed Sandal, because the footwear contains more nickel than is allowed.

The government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards has said: “The product presents a serious chemical risk as the nickel content is greater than the maximum permissible limit. Nickel is a skin sensitiser and can cause allergic reactions if present in products that come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin.”

Anyone who owns a pair of the sandals - which were on sale for £12.50 - has been advised to stop wearing them and return them to their nearest Asda for a refund, even if they no longer have a receipt.

The recall only covers those in the colours lilac and sage. The affected barcodes are: 5059201862196, 5059201862219, 5059201862233, 5059201862271, 5059201862257, 5059201862295, 5059201862318, 5059201862332, 5059201372015, 5059201372039 5059201372053, 5059201372091, 5059201372077, 5059201372213, 5059201372237, 5059201372251, 5059201341790, 5059201342018, 5059201342032, 5059201342070, 5059201342056, 5059201342094, 5059201342117 and 5059201342131.

The product has been recalled from end users. Owners of the product are advised to stop using them and return them to the nearest ASDA, where a full refund will be given. A receipt is not required. No other colours are affected by the recall.

Asda said: “We have initiated a product recall due to the presence of nickel found in the trims of some lilac and sage George Ladies double buckle flatbed sandals in all sizes.

“Testing has confirmed that the rivet part of the trim may contain nickel levels that exceed the permissible limits. This may cause an adverse skin reaction to some customers. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
