Shabir Hussain’s death was announced by Akbar’s Restaurant Group on social media.

The announcement of Shabir Hussain’s death read: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shabir Hussain, founder of Akbar's Restaurant Group." 

"All restaurants will now be closed and will reopen on Friday at 17:00 BST.

"Please remember Shabir Hussain in your prayers. May Allah (SWT) grant him the highest rank in Jannah and bring peace and strength to his family during this difficult time."

Akbar’s restaurant was founded by Shabir Hussain in Bradford in 1995 and he then launched it in Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow and  Birmingham. Naz Shah, Labour MP for Bradford West paid tribute to Shabir on X and after revealing that she was deeply saddened by the news, said: “A huge loss to his family and the world of business, not just in Bradford but across the UK as his brand reached many cities.

"His entrepreneurial triumph was exporting the best of Bradford’s curry scene throughout the country."

Tributes have been flooding in for Shabir Hussain who has been dubbed the ‘King of Curry.’ One fan said: “I had some good times with this guy in living rooms on Greek street Leeds over 20 years ago. A truly kind and Generous man and a very sad loss indeed. Sending love and peace to you all sincerely, Ade,” whilst another said: “So sad to hear this. Thank you for creating the finest lamb chops and curries.”

Shabir Hussain passed away after a brave battle with cancer.
