Eric Dane health update: Grey's Anatomy star now in 24/7 care amid ALS diagnosis as estranged wife Rebecca issues update

Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane is receiving round-the-clock care as his ALS diagnosis progresses, his wife Rebecca has said in a new update.

Dane, 53, revealed in April 2025 that he was living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), an incurable progressive neurodegenerative disorder that causes muscle weakness and paralysis. ALS is also commonly referred to as motor neuron disease.

His wife Rebecca has now issued an update on his condition, revealing that the Euphoria star has “24/7 nurses” to look after him amid the diagnosis. Rebecca, who has previously filed for divorce in 2018 but dismissed the petition in March after Dane’s health took a turn, wrote in The Cut that the family struggled to get their insurance to cover full-time care for her husband.

Rebecca wrote: “With the nurses, the woman from his insurance said to me, ‘You can keep applying, and I’ll keep denying,’ I was like, ‘Oh? F that.’ I made it my mission. I was ‘locked in,’ as the kids would say. I crashed out, and then I locked it in. And we got it approved after two appeals.”

Rebecca said that the week is “divided into 21 shifts”, with herself covering when nurses are not scheduled for shifts. She revealed that this means that the couple, who have been separated for eight years, are spending a lot of time together again.

She explained: “It’s all been really positive, and I think it’s nice for the kids to see maybe a softer side of us. It’s not that they have the hopes of us being together — kids always dream of their parents getting back together, and I think now ours don’t because they understand the reality of the situation. And hopefully, what they see instead are two adults who are trying to be mature and focus on what’s important.”

Rebecca added: “We separated, but we never got a divorce; we were about to and then we didn’t. We haven’t lived in the same home for eight years; he’s dated other people, I’ve dated someone. It’s a very complicated relationship, one that’s confusing for people. Our love may not be romantic, but it’s a familial love.”

Eric previously revealed his diagnosis in an interview with People Magazine earlier this year. He said: “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

He also confirmed that he would be returning for the highly-anticipated third season of Euphoria despite his diagnosis. He said during his interview with People Magazine: “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to [the] set of Euphoria next week.”
