Evita: How to watch Rachel Zegler sing ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ from London Palladium balcony, best time
The standout number in Evita now opens Act II outdoors, as part of director Jamie Lloyd’s new staging of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber–Tim Rice musical.
TikToker Louise May, who caught Zegler’s performance earlier this week, has offered tips for anyone hoping to witness the moment in person. She said the best time to come is no later than 8.45pm so you can catch the free show at the balcony. She added: “I wouldn’t recommend any later.”

Hide AdShe explained: “She does a reprise inside. And the audience are saying how impactful it is to the story that she sings to crowds outside. And they can also see the other perspective and go see it outside for free another time.”

The performance takes place as part of Act II in Lloyd’s multimedia-driven revival, with the balcony sequence streamed into the auditorium on large screens. The move, while unconventional, mirrors the original context of the song: Eva Perón singing to the masses from the balcony of the presidential palace.
@loumayyy I know you’ve watched it 50 times already but here, watch it again, the speech at the end is always worth it. #rachelzegler #evita #westend #westendtheatre #londonlife #musicaltheatre #theatrekid ♬ original sound - louise may
One audience member shared their reaction online: “Was in the theatre last night and you know what, it really did work. Having her genuinely do it to an adoring crowd is very effective. And because she does the reprise on stage, I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything.”
Zegler, best known for West Side Story (2021), is making her West End debut in Evita, which began previews over the weekend. The production runs until September 21. On matinee days, fans can also expect a performance around 4pm.
