Why was Angelina Jolie at the White House with son Maddox? The actress dazzled in Chanel at the state dinner

Without question, Angelina Jolie is more often photographed at red carpet events and film premieres, rather than at the White House. However, she was invited by the President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden to attend a state dinner for the South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife Kim Keon-hee in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the U.S-Rok alliance.

Angelina decided to bring her 21 year old son Maddox along with her, as Maddox has just returned from the US after studying biochemistry at Yonsei University in Seoul where he has been studying since 2019.

Maddox’s studies were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and like a lot of students, had to swap in person school to online classes. According to People, Angelina found dropping him off to college a very emotional experience. “Jolie was seen dropping Maddox off at school in a video shared to Instagram in August, in which she told students she was ‘trying not to cry.’

For the event at the White House, both Angelina Jolie and Maddox made sure they dressed for the occasion. Angelina dazzled in a vintage Chanel tuxedo style jacket which she wore over a flowing white dress while Maddox looked very smart in a long black peacoat, black trousers, white shirt and black tie.

Angelina Jolie and Maddox were seated at the head table for the dinner and were joined by Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim and home improvement stars Chip and Joanna Gaines.

The event was held in the East Room of the White House and cherry blossoms were used to decorate the room. According to reports, the dinner was designed by Korean-American chef, Chef Edward Lee.

Although Angelina adopted Maddox prior to her relationship with Brad Pitt, the couple still share him, as well as five other children, Pax, Knox Leon, Zahara, Shiloh and Vivienne. Brad legally adopted Maddox in 2006 and his surname was changed to ‘Jolie-Pitt.’
