In this busy day and age, people find it quite difficult to find a minute to themselves, but what about finding three hours and 12 minutes?

James Cameron’s Avatar sequel premieres on 16 December called ‘Avatar 2: The Way of Water’, and the long-awaited movie runs for 192 minutes - a whopping 31 minutes longer than the record-breaking original 2009 movie.

As the extensive runtime circulated online, Avatar fans started to complain about the length, with one joking: “More like Avatar: Way Too Long Movie,” while another tweeted: “I know that runtime doesn’t dictate quality, but come on, that’s way too long… especially since it’s the first of four sequels.”

The 2022 movie comes as three others are set for release in 2024, 2026 and 2028 to complete Cameron’s franchise. In light of this, another person voiced their opinion stating: “That is way too long. I can do it for [Avengers Endgame] but not for Avatar.”

Set to be released in the UK on December 16, James Cameron's 'Avatar: The Way of the Water' is the sequel to the most successful film in the history of cinema and is 15/2 to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. James Cameron responded to the criticism from fans by saying: “I don’t want anybody whining about length when they sit and binge-watch television for eight-hours.”

The award-winning director proposed a solution for those doubting the runtime by suggesting that it is ok to get up half-way through and go to the toilet.

Three hours and 12 minutes is a long running time for a film, however the length of the movie is not the only stand out timing of the sequel.

While Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver reprise their roles 13 years later, Hollywood icon Kate Winslet joins the cast list and rejoins forces with the Titanic director.

With most of the movie set and filmed underwater as the blue characters explore the hidden depths of Pandora around a ‘settlement of Metkayina people’, Kate Winslet managed to hold her breath for a whopping seven minutes and 15 seconds.

Kate’s impressive feat smashed Tom Cruise’s record of staying submerged and holding his breath for six minutes during filming for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

“I have a video of me surfacing saying, ‘am I dead, have I died?’ And then going, ‘what is my time?” Kate said, “Straight away I wanted to know my time. And I couldn’t believe it…The next thing I say is, ‘we need to radio set. I wanted Jim [Cameron] to know right away.”

When working with James Cameron on Titanic and previously being submerged in freezing water for long periods, Kate caught hypothermia, however today’s release is hopefully set to have a warmer current for the Oscar-winning actress.
