If I hear ‘Hi Barbie’ one more time I think my head will explode. Thanks to everyone jumping on the bandwagon, my social media feed is full of ‘Hi Barbie/Hi Ken’ video clips. There's also all the other memes of ‘This Barbie is..’ and ‘She’s Everything. He’s just Ken.’ Yes it was cute and funny at first, but it has been relentless since the first trailer was released in May.

Like many Barbie fans I sat watching the trailer excitedly on the edge of my seat, I even recall myself saying ‘I can not wait for that movie’. Yet here I am days before it is released and I’m bored of it already.

Let me just state I am a huge fan of Barbie - the memory of being forced to give away my beloved collection of dolls and accessories to a younger cousin, who I knew would cut their hair off, at the age of 10 still haunts me to this day. However, the Barbiemania has got a bit too much, even for me and the film isn’t even out yet.

It’s the most anticipated film to be released this year, with an endless list of stars featuring in the movie. Critics have called it a ‘triumph’ and the box office ‘projections show it's likely to make an impressive $93 million’, according to Matthew Belloni of Puck News.

I have written many stories on Margot Robbie’s press tour outfits. Andrew Mukamal dressing her in outfits inspired by the Barbie dolls was a breath of fresh air. But after the fifth, sixth and seventh 'Barbie inspired' outfit, it wasn’t a original idea anymore - in fact I just thought he’s not really doing a good job as a stylist and coming up with his own ideas. He is quite literally copying someone else’s and palming them off as his own.

Bring back the Margot style we love - like the blue silk Versace dress with peek-a-boo red lace detail she wore to the Babylon Premiere in Sydney - stop making her look like Barbie, surely even she is bored of the Barbie outfits now.

You only have to step out onto the high street to see the colour pink is everywhere. Barbie inspired nail polishes, lip and cheek tint, handbags and clothing. Even Zara have launched an entire collection dedicated to Barbie.

Now I’m happy to do the whole Mean Girls ‘on Wednesdays we wear pink’ theme, I love wearing pink, really I do. But the Zara range looks juvenile like if you want to play dress up Barbie doll, then go ahead. But there are much classier ways of wearing pink than dressing up like the doll, ‘This Barbie’ won’t be purchasing any of it.

It pains me to say it but after months of really looking forward to the Barbie movie - which is released Friday July 21 - you will most likely find me watching Oppenheimer instead.
