Is Chris Rock 'obsessed' with Jada Pinkett-Smith? Evidence goes back 30 years

It’s coming up to a year since the now infamous 94th Academy Awards moment where Will Smith walked up to Chris Rock and slapped him in front of millions of shocked people watching. The host made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s, 51, alopecia, Will stormed the stage and slapped Chris across the face. 

Chris has only now publicly addressed the incident in a Netflix special ‘Chris Rock: Selective Outrage’ where he made countless jokes about the couple and their marriage. 

A source close to Jada has now spoken out about the Netflix special. Speaking to People the source said: "Jada has had no part in all of this other than being heckled, Chris is obsessed with her and that's been going on for almost 30 years."

The source claimed that filming the Netflix special in Baltimore - Jada’s hometown - proved even more that the comedian was ‘obsessed’ with her. 

In 2016 the Red Table Talk show host started a movement after questioning why there weren't more black members at the Academy Awards and wanted to see more inclusivity. This was after her husband was snubbed by the awards for his role in the film Concussion. 

Chris took this as her saying he should step down as host of the awards. In his stand-up he said: “Years ago, his wife said I should quit the Oscars. I shouldn't host 'cause her man didn't get nominated for Concussion. And then he gives me a f***** concussion."

The comic didn’t hold back when it came to making jokes about Jada he said: “That's what the f*** happened. Nobody's pickin' on this b*****. She started this s**t. Nobody was pickin' on her.”

The source added that Jada was shocked how many times he referred to her as a ‘b****’ in his show. Then added that Jada was moving on from all the drama by concentrating on her book that is due out this year. 

The feud between Will and Chris may go a lot further back than Oscars slap. Back in 1995 Chris was a guest in an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air. 

The season six episode titled ‘Get a job’ sees Chris playing the character Maurice and - dressed in drag - Maurice’s sister Jasmine. Wearing a curly blonde wig, tight fitting leopard print top and red lipstick the comedian is almost unrecognisable. 

According to Complex website many people don’t remember Chris being in the show as it was before his show Bring the Pain special aired on HBO. Complex said: “I'm not saying that getting into a dress for Will Smith's show made Chris Rock a superstar, but I'm not not saying it.”
