Actor Treat Williams who starred in the US television series Everwood and musical Hair has died at the age of 71 in a road accident. According to the BBC “Williams was thrown from his motorbike in Vermont on Monday after being hit by an SUV turning left,” police said. 

Treat William’s family released a statement that was published in Variety. The statement read “As you can imagine, we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time.”

The statement went on to say that “Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft, and was truly at the top of his game in all of it.”

Barry McPherson who was Treat Williams' agent of 15 years told People that “He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right (and) a car cut him off.” He went on to say that “I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.

Barry McPherson also said that “Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.”

Although Treat Williams made his film debut in Deadly Hero in 1975, his career took off when he starred as George Berger in the film Hair in 1979 and this role resulted in his first Golden Globe nomination. Treat Willaims also secured another Golden Globe nomination when he starred in 1981’s Prince of the City.

Treat Williams also earned himself a SAG Award nomination in 2003-04 for his portrayal of Dr Andrew ‘Andy’ Brown in Everwood, which he starred in for all of their four seasons. As well as appearing in television shows such as Chicago Fire and Blue Bloods, he also was in such films as Heart of Dixie and Steven Spielberg’s 1941.

Treat Williams was married to actress Pam Van Sant and they lived together in Vermont. As well as being an actress, Pam is also a producer and is best known for her own on the TV series American Masters. The two children of Pam Van Sant and Treat Williams are Gill Williams, 31 and Ellie Williams, 24.

Celebrities such as Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall who is about to make a cameo alongside Sarah Jessica Parker in ‘And Just Like That’ shared a photograph of Treat Williams on Twitter and said: “I’m in shock! RIP Dear Treat. My condolences to Pam, Gilles, Ellie and the family. A wonderful actor and friend.”
