Confession time on Blue Monday. I spent a lot of my childhood watching classic movies starring the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida.

To this day, there is nothing more that I love than curling up on the sofa watching films from the 1950s and the 1960s.

I think part of the reason for this is that there was something so wonderfully glamorous about film stars from the past. It is not hard to see why Gina Lollobrigida was once described as ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’ She exuded ‘Old Style Hollywood’ elegance that many modern day stars have tried to replicate and failed.

It is no wonder that the actress was one of the major influences behind Lady Gaga’s look in House of Gucci (a film that I only watched for the first time) over the Christmas period.

The Lady Gaga/Gina Lollobrigida inspiration was discussed in an article by The Hollywood Reporter. “As British costume designer Janty Yates details: “Ridley (Scott) wanted Lady Gaga to look more like Gina Lollobrigida than Joan Collins of Dynasty, so basically we looked at all in the photos of Gaina in her prime in the ‘60s and I did a later-’70s version of the lace dress.”

Although Gina Lollobrigida was best known for her ‘sex symbol’ performances in films such as Beat the Devil, Soloman and Sheba and Buona Sera, I simply adored the movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (which she starred in).

Gina Lollobrigida might not be familiar with the Gen-Z generation, but with all the tributes flowing in for her, her impact on the world of movies and fashion cannot be underestimated.
