Turns out Henry Cavill has found his kryptonite after the star has been dropped from the role of Superman.

The ‘Man of Steel’ announced his return to the superhero character for the upcoming 2023 movie, directed by James Gunn and produced by Peter Safran, just a mere seven weeks ago.

Henry confirmed his return on social media following a post-credit scene in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam hinting that the 39-year-old was taking on the role of Superman again.

However, in another Instagram post, Henry Cavill revealed the ‘sad news’ to his 23 million followers as he hung up his cape.

The post, that now has 2.3 million likes, stated: “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it’s sad news everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.

“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Henry continued to thank everyone for standing by his side during his ‘fun ride’ and reminded them that the examples that Superman sets are still ongoing.

Some are questioning the move as James Gunn is set to focus on the earlier parts of Superman's life, thus needing a slightly different cast.

The shocking news is the latest in a line of bad luck for Henry Cavill as the Jersey-born actor was replaced by Liam Hemsworth in Netflix’s The Witcher after three seasons.

Henry’s departure from the fantasy series was announced at a similar time to his return to Superman news, with Netflix executive Peter Friedland stating: “There has been a legacy of amazing, iconic characters where the actors have changed and we’re hugely optimistic about this… Henry is an extraordinary Geralt and I think Liam will continue and also be an extraordinary Geralt.”

While there has been no exact reasoning for his Witcher departure, some believe that Henry thought the scripts were diverging away from the original material - a series called The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski.
