It was one of the biggest movies of the 80s and the news fans have been waiting 35 years for was finally confirmed. Warner Bros announced at the CinemaCon 2023 event in Las Vegas  that a Beetlejuice sequel is officially in development.

The 1988 fantasy-horror film, directed by Tim Burton, was based on a recently deceased couple who, as ghosts haunting their former home, contact Beetlejuice played by Michael Keaton as an obnoxious and devious "bio-exorcist" from the Netherworld, to scare away the house's new inhabitants.

After working with Jenna Ortega on the hugely successful Netflix show 'Wednesday' it seems she is at the top of the list to play the role of Lydia Deetz's (Winona Ryder in the original) daughter. Michael will reprise his role as the titular character but it is not yet known if the other cast members Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones will return.

Warner Bros will be hoping to recreate the same sort of success story Paramount Pictures received with the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick after fans also waited over 30 years for a second film.

The Goonies

‘Hey you Guys!' Yes, the 1985 cult classic The Goonies has been surrounded by rumours of a sequel for years. The story follows a group of kids on an epic adventure to find hidden treasure.

The bunch of misfits are facing their last days together before a development paves over their homes and stumble onto evidence of a pirate's treasure which attracts a family of criminals.

If you haven’t watched it then you have really missed out! Actually, did you even have a childhood if you didn’t watch The Goonies?

But the late director Richard Donner may be the reason why it may never happen. In 2014 Corey Feldman explained “no one really wants to make it without him. He's [was] the driving force behind it.”

The film was iconic and as much as we like the idea of a sequel would it ruin the great film that it was? Maybe we just leave this one alone?

Labyrinth

Don’t get too excited just yet as a sequel to the 1986 film Labyrinth has been in production since 2017. The film's plot follows a young girl Sarah (Jennifer Connolly) save her younger brother from the goblin king - rock superstar David Bowie - and only has 13 hours to solve the Labyrinth.

Director Jim Henson, who is best known for his work with puppets that heavily feature in the film sadly passed away in 1990. But his daughter Lisa Henson is rumoured to be producing the sequel so we know that it's in good hands.
