When we mention that an iconic Titanic duo are reuniting, many will hope that Kate Winslet will be meeting up with close friend Leonardo DiCaprio again…

However, the iceberg in the room is that the British actress has teamed up again with Titanic director James Cameron as they prepare for the upcoming Avatar sequels.

Despite recent comments suggesting that the pair had an icy relationship 20 years ago with Kate even being ‘traumatised’ from filming the Oscar-winning movie, Kate and Jim were seen arm in arm over the weekend to premiere their new film, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water.’

Jumping back into the deep end, Kate (who caught pneumonia while filming Titanic) will swap the freezing waters for the sea set of Avatar's Pandora alongside Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Vin Diesel.

It comes as Titanic’s 25th anniversary is fast approaching after it was released 19 December 1997, and much like the ship’s devastating end, Kate had previously made waves about her thoughts on Jim Cameron.

Shortly after its release, Kate had reportedly said that the only time she would work for Jim Cameron again would be ‘for a lot of money’.

Although it was later clarified that her comments had been misinterpreted, other rumours included that Cameron had nicknamed Kate, ‘Kate Weighs-a-lot’ prompting ‘The Holiday’ actress to speak regularly about body confidence.

In March 2022, Kate said: “I was even told that ‘I might be lucky with my acting, if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts. I felt that I wasn’t enough, I wasn’t good enough. I didn’t look right…and all because I didn’t fit into someone else’s idea of ‘perfect’.”

A couple months later Cameron dissed Gal Gadot’s film Wonder Woman not only saying it was a ‘step backwards’ but also making sexist comments about the DC’s leading lady.

While these polarising views would make one think that this would put the final nail in the coffin for Kate and James’ working relationship, it is thought that they have had a good connection since Titanic and the pair have now spoken about how delighted they were to be reuniting.

James said: “Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”

As Kate said to The Telegraph: “I loved doing Avatar with Jim - he is much more calm now. In those days there was no space for him to say, ‘it might not work.’ He had to make it work. There were all those conversations about this huge film, Titanic. I can’t imagine the pressure.

“As we get older we learn how to say, ‘I made a mistake.’ We all get better at that, don’t we?”

So with past grievances set aside, will the dynamic duo of Kate Winslet and James Cameron make another roaring success with Avatar?
