Are Kelis and Bill Murray dating? Rumours circulate between the Milkshake singer and Ghostbusters star

In news that almost broke the internet this morning, rumours have circulated that one of the celebrity world’s biggest odd couples may in fact be dating. Ghostbusters actor Bill Murray, 72, and ‘Milkshake’ singer Kelis, 43, are reportedly now an item, based on a TMZ report speculating Murray’s backstage appearance during her set in London earlier this week.

Kelis was one of the many performers taking stage at London’s Mighty Hoopla festival, where it’s been alleged that Murray was backstage watching the ‘Caught Out There’ singer’s set. This was further compounded by a report in the US Sun, with sources “close” to the couple revealing that they have been spending more time together in the US and here in the UK recently.

The fuel was further thrown onto the bonfire of love when pictures started also emerging showing Murray and Kelis backstage at a number of other shows, while also speculating that the sad circumstances of the partners of both actor and singer dying created a mutual bond between the two. Kelis' second husband died in March 2022 and Bill's estranged wife died in 2021

Others close to either Bill Murray or Kelis are cautious to call it a “relationship” however, with one friend telling the US Sun “they’ve met up in the States before which got people in the industry talking, and now are meeting up in London while they’re both here. They’ve clearly hit it off. They were both seen at the same hotel, and he’s been to watch her perform several times before he went to Mighty Hoopla.”

“But they’ve also both shared relatively recent bereavements and have that common bond between them. Whatever it is that has brought them together, and however unlikely it seems, they are both single and are having fun despite the fairly big age gap.”

Who has Kelis dated in the past?

Nas

Nas and Kelis' relationship began in 2002 when they met at a MTV Video Music Awards after-party hosted by Diddy. Nas, who was nearly six years older than Kelis, approached her with a memorable pick-up line, expressing his desire to make her his wife. The feeling was mutual, as Kelis had been crushing on him as well. They took their time getting to know each other and eventually got engaged in front of Kelis' friends and family on Christmas Eve in 2002. 

The couple tied the knot in 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia, with Nas describing Kelis as his best friend. However, their marriage didn't last, and they announced their divorce in 2009, just four years after getting married. They had a son together named Knight. Following their divorce, Kelis made serious abuse allegations against Nas, revealing incidents of physical and emotional abuse during their tumultuous marriage. Nas denied the claims.

Pharrell Williams

In addition to their professional relationship, it's worth mentioning that Pharrell and Kelis had a romantic involvement in 2001. Their connection extended beyond music, as Pharrell credits Kelis with not only influencing his fashion sense but also introducing him to the world of high fashion. At the time, Pharrell's style mainly revolved around Ralph Lauren's Polo, which was popular at the time. 

However, Kelis encouraged him to broaden his horizons and explore more upscale brands like Prada and Gucci. Thanks to Kelis's influence, Pharrell was able to break out of his fashion rut and embrace a new realm of style, as he revealed in an interview with UK Vogue magazine.

Andre Benjamin

Kelis and André 3000 collaborated on a song titled "Millionaire" in 2004. The track was featured on Kelis' third studio album, "Tasty," released on December 5, 2003. "Millionaire" served as the third single from the album and was produced by André 3000 himself. The song incorporates elements of funk and R&B, showcasing both Kelis' and André 3000's unique musical styles.

The collaboration between Kelis and André 3000 received positive reviews from critics and was well-received by fans, highlighting the chemistry between the two artists, with Kelis delivering her powerful vocals and André 3000 contributing his distinct rap verses. That chemistry also led to rumours the pair were dating in 2004.

Michael Mora

Kelis entered into a marriage with photographer Mike Mora in 2014. In November 2015, she welcomed her second son into the world. Since January 2020, Kelis has been residing on a secluded farm outside Los Angeles, which she personally manages. In September 2020, she and Mora celebrated the arrival of their second child, a daughter. Tragically, in September 2021, Mora publicly disclosed that he had been diagnosed with stage-4 stomach cancer. 

Through an Instagram post, he revealed his advanced gastric adenocarcinoma diagnosis, with a prognosis of eighteen months to live. Sadly, Mora passed away on March 14, 2022, at the age of 37.
