What’s the latest in the Kevin Spacey trial?

Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey has been giving evidence at Southwark Crown Court in London where he is denying 12 charges of sexual offences against four men that allegedly took place between 2001 and 2013, Kevin Spacey is being represented by Patrick Gibbs KC, who is considered one of the leading lawyers in his field. 

One of the prosecutors for the case is Shauna Ritchie who is part of 2 Bedford Row, 2BR. According to their website, “Shauna Ritchie is a specialist advocate practising in crime and health and safety. Her experience encompasses the full spectrum of serious criminal and regulatory offences, from murder, rape and serious sexual and violent offences, to corporate and gross negligence manslaughter and HSWA offences.”

The lead prosecutor is Christine Agnew KC, also part of 2 Bedford Row, 2BR. In the most recent Legal 500, she was described as an ‘outstanding advocate’ and according to the company’s website “specialises in cases of corruption, money laundering and other serious financial crime. She represented the only defendant to be acquitted in the first prosecution by the Serious Fraud Office under the Bribery Act.”

Before the court took their break for lunch, Sky News reported that Kevin Spacey “highlights to the court that the man implied to police he had been drugged, and then “here in the witness box he accused me… none of that was true.”

Sky News also went on to say that “The Hollywood star tells the court that when he first heard about the allegation, from police in 2019, he was given very little information.” Although Kevin Spacey lived in London for more than a decade, he reportedly now resides in Baltimore in the States. 

Kevin Spacey, who won a ‘Best Actor’ Oscar for American Beauty in 2000 and another Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for The Usual Suspects in 1996, was artistic director of the Old Vic theatre in London between 2004 and 2015.

Since the court has returned after lunch, Sky News has reported that “Mr (Patrick) Gibbs moves back to earlier in the night, when someone went to take a photo of Spacey at a pub.

The actor says something like this “changes the dynamic” in certain situations.” Kevin Spacey revealed that “If I go some place, people might at first feel, you know, ‘it’s a film actor. ”I do everything I can to try and make that disappear and just be myself.”
