There’s just something about Lady Gaga that lends her to being the ideal person to portray a highly anticipated role.

The singer turned actress was confirmed earlier this year to appear in a sequel to 2019’s ‘Joker’ with heavy rumours that she will be playing Harley Quinn.

Joaquin Phoenix's Oscar-winning Joker film was undoubtedly a psychological thriller and Gaga’s previous roles could mean her appearance in a sequel would not do the film series a disservice.

That’s not to say Margot Robbie's portrayal of the iconic DC Comics villain was not up to par. It certainly was.

But the tone of her take on the character is markedly different to The Joker film and would struggle to fit into the dark, moody and dystopian world director Todd Phillips created in the 2019 film.

And the conversation around her role is now heating up after a crew member agreed Gaga would be a “perfect” fit.

PeopleWorld takes a look into why Lady Gaga is ideal to play Joker’s erratic sidekick.

Firstly, Gaga’s horror roles in two series of American Horror Story mean she’s already has experience giving audiences a thrill. And she’ll need plenty of that if she’s playing Harley Quinn.

Gaga starred in 2015’s American Horror Story: Hotel and 2016’s American Horror Story: Roanoke where she portrayed the Scáthach, a bloodthirsty immortal witch.

Adding to this, the first Joker film has an undeniable musical element to it. I mean, how could anyone forget THAT scene of Joaquin Phoenix’s dance down a set of steps.

We’re all well aware of Gaga’s background in music, and we’ve got our fingers crossed she’ll bring all that experience onto the big screen in Joker 2.

Also, with the sequel being such an anticipated film, it’s reassuring to fans to know that Gaga isn’t new to starring in blockbuster films

The 36-year-old has already starred in ‘A Star is Born’ opposite Bradley Cooper and also in 2021’s House of Gucci with Jared Leto and Adam Driver where her performance was particularly praised.

Speaking on Lady Gaga, Joker 2 cinematographer Lawrence Sher said: "She’s going to be a really cool fit for this movie and will create a similar kind of magic that Joaquin brought by himself.

"The combination of the two will be exactly what we hope, which is exciting, and we’ll find magic every day on set.

“Hopefully, we’ll also have a bit of madness in there. We like when there is a little bit of chaos."

The official title for the Joker sequel has also been confirmed as ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’.

Filming is due to begin in early 2023 in Los Angeles and New York.

Although fans are already excited about the sequel, we will have to wait until October 4, 2024 to see Gaga on the big screen.
