With fame comes the riches, but not all celebrities have been able to hold onto their immense wealth.

While some have lost vast amounts of money through no fault of their own, other stars have also lost their wealth through poor decision-making.

Celebrities and their money is currently a talking point after it was revealed that actress Meg Wynn Owen - known for her roles in Love Actually and Pride and Prejudice - has been left penniless in a care home.

Owen - who died earlier this year in June - has a story of financial demise that stands out from other celebrities as the actress was reportedly swindled out of her life savings by a friend-turned conman.

As well as her story, we look at other celebrities who lost it all - and some may surprise you.

The 82-year-old, who also starred in Doctor Who, had to wear clothes from dead residents at her care home after she was left without any money, reports say.

She had to have her hair cut by staff and couldn't afford to buy clothes after a man took £65,000 from her accounts.

Brian Malam, a costume designer, was in charge of Meg’s finances since 2014 when she began to struggle with dementia.

He attempted to discreetly steal thousands from her but was eventually caught out and sentenced to prison.

Nicholas Cage

A huge name in Hollywood, Nicholas Cage fell on hard times back in 2009.

The IRS alleged Cage had failed to pay more than $6.2 million in federal income tax. While he pointed the finger at his former financial manager, Cage’s homes in New Orleans, Bel Air and Nevada were foreclosed and sold at auctions.

Cage also reportedly sued his financial manager after the ordeal, indicating the blame also lay out of his hands.

Michael Jackson

The King of Pop was also once close to foreclosure at his famous Neverland home.

Jackson’s spending habits meant he relied heavily on loans - according to Business Insider - and expensive lawsuits took a toll in his career.

At the time of his death in 2009, accountants estimated that he still owed between $400 and $500 million.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp’s recent legal issues have seen him lose roles such as Grindelwald in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise, but there are other reasons the actor has had financial trouble.

The actor is someone who spent wildly and extravagantly for years.

Reports over the years have highlighted how Depp has previously spent £30,000 a month on wine,$4 million on a failed record label, and perhaps most bizarrely, he spent $3 million to blast the ashes of journalist Hunter S Thompson out of a cannon. Yes, he really did.

Stephen Baldwin

Alec Baldwin’s younger brother filed for bankruptcy in 2009. At the time, he still owed money on taxes and two mortgages.

The same issues reoccurred for Stephen in 2017 when his house was foreclosed after failing to make mortgage payments for six years.

It seems Stephen has had multiple tax-related issues as he was also arrested and served a five year probation for failed payments too.
