A closer look at Meg Ryan and David Duchovny star in new rom-com movie ‘What Happens Later’

The trailer for the new romantic comedy (rom-com) movie ‘What Happens Later’ directed by and starring Meg Ryan alongside David Duchovny has been released.

The film based on Steven Dietz's play "Shooting Star," sees ex-lovers Willa (Meg Ryan) and Bill (David Duchovny) bump into each other for the first time in years after their flights are cancelled due to snow and they get stuck at the airport overnight. 

It will be the first time the two stars of the nineties will feature in a movie together. We take a look at what they have been up to over the past few years.  

Where has Meg Ryan been?

It’s the first time in 15 years that Meg Ryan, 61, will return to the rom-com genre which she is best known for. According to IMBD the last rom-com movie she starred in was ‘My Spy’ (originally named ‘My Mom’s New Boyfriend’) alongside Antonio Banderas in 2008.  

She was known as the ‘Queen of the rom-coms’ after starring in some of the biggest romance movies of the eighties and nineties including ‘When Harry Met Sally’ (1989), ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ (1993) and ‘You Got Mail’ (1998). 

Meg Ryan relationship history

The actress met actor Dennis Quaid in 1987 whilst filming the sci-fi movie ‘Innerspace’.  The couple married in 1991 but divorced in 2001. 

In 2018 the actress got engaged to singer-songwriter John Mellencamp, the couple had an on-again, off-again relationship but they officially broke things off in 2019. It appears she is currently single.

The actor married actress Téa Leoni in 1997 the couple split in 2008 when David Duchovny entered rehab for sex addiction. They got back together but separated again in 2011 before finally filing for divorce in 2014 citing "an irretrievable breakdown".

The exes share two children, actress West Duchovny, and son Kyd Miller Duchovny. West is best known for her role in the TV series ‘PainKiller’ whilst Kyd stays out of the spotlight.
