Although redheads are usually submitted to being the target of jokes and ridicule, would you pass up the chance to give a kiss to a fiery auburn-locked individual? Especially if you consider some of the famous gingers that could be in contention.

January 12, 2023 allows you to express your affection for less than two per cent of the world’s population, as the UK celebrates ‘National Kiss a Ginger Day’.

While red symbolises danger or anger, it also connotes passion, love and confidence - all things we love to see in a potential smooching partner.

Ginger hair could be on the rise as the shade became a popular trend in autumn 2022 with multiple celebrities converting to the ways of a redhead by dying their locks including Kendall Jenner, Sydney Sweeney, and Zendaya.

In light of the national day, PeopleWorld takes a look at some of the leading ladies and gents known for their rouge barnets.

Prince Harry

I reckon the UK population at the moment look at the opportunity to kiss Prince Harry, a notable redhead, just like marmite - you’d either love to or hate it.

The Duke of Sussex has made light of his hair colour throughout his time in the public eye, most recently joking about his ‘strong ginger genes’ that he has passed on to his children Archie and Lilibet, that he inherited from his mother Diana’s side.

Despite being ‘national kiss a ginger day’ fans were able to see the love between Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle in their Netflix series, with the Prince even joking, “I remember my family first meeting [Meghan] and being incredibly impressed…they were surprised that a ‘ginger’ could land such a beautiful woman.”

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain is seen as a confident and power-driven lady both in her activism and her movies such as Molly’s Game or The Eyes of Tammy Faye, however she opened up that she had previously struggled with low self esteem as a result of her red locks.

Jessica said she ‘didn’t like looking different’ as she felt left out of groups but has since turned that around and even named her production company after one of her once-insecure features, ‘Freckle Films’.

She said: “I want to make movies about our differences as a society so that’s why I call it that.”

Damian Lewis

According to Damian Lewis’ website, he is an ‘actor, dad, redhead and ping pong champion’ which showcases his love for his crimson hair.

‘Billions’ of people would love the chance to kiss Damian Lewis, who acknowledges that there are more and more redheads at the forefront of popular culture currently.

Julianne Moore

One of the few natural redheads on the Hollywood scene is Julianne Moore, known for her confidence, her beauty and her stellar acting.

Just like Jessica Chastain, Julianne had confessed to struggling with hair confidence growing up after she was teased about the colour, however has since realised that it was her ‘calling card’.

Julianne said in 2014: “My grandmother always said my red hair was my calling card! And I never realised how much I identified with it until I had to dye it blonde years ago for a role…I couldn’t wait to get back to my normal shade.”

Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran’s hair is ‘perfect’ to his multitude of followers, but did you know that he was once advised to change the colour if he wanted to make it as a celebrity?

We are glad he stuck to his [hair] roots as the singer has gone on to sell more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the world’s best-selling music artists.

Ed continues to pay tribute to his hair colour, as seen in a recent Tweet where he apologised to ‘his ginger people’ after dying his hair blonde for three days while filming the music video for his single ‘Bad Habits’.

Emma Stone

All the aforementioned celebrities are loved for their natural red-headed ways, and although Emma Stone is linked to being a ginger, the La La Land actress was actually born blonde.

The change to Emma’s auburn locks took place during the filming process of her early film ‘Superbad’, when there was concern the two leading actresses (Emma and Martha MacIsaac) would be too similar.

Superbad’s producer Judd Apatow told Vanity Fair that Emma cursed him for the change in hair colour as ‘people now love her with red hair and she’s had to live with that for a lot of her adult life.’
