Next James Bond odds: Black Mirror star enters the running to be cast as 007 while Amazon dither on decision

A new contender is suddenly in the conversation to become the next James Bond, according to the bookies.

It feels like a lifetime since we last saw Bond in cinemas, with Daniel Craig’s swansong being put to film back in 2021.

Over the past four years, a lot has changed for 007. Amazon MGM Studios has gained full creative control of the franchise, Amy Pascal and David Heyman have been brought on as producers and Denis Villeneuve - best known for his work on Dune - has been hired as director.

Meanwhile, the rumour mill just keeps on spinning. The latest reports indicate Amazon will take Bond back to the 1950s/60s, and are looking for a younger actor (ideally under 30 years old) to become the face of the franchise for the long-term.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who starred in Bullet Train and Avengers: Age of Ultron, has been the favourite for the role over the past couple of years. But according to the bookies, a new name has entered the fray.

James Nelson-Joyce is now firmly in the running for the part. Having featured in an episode of Netflix’s brain-bending Black Mirror, Nelson-Joyce is also known for his parts in The Covenant, The Nest, and TV series This City Is Ours, where he played Michael Kavanagh.

While not necessarily fitting Amazon’s pre-requisite for an actor under 30 years old, he does fit the idea that the role of James Bond is typically given to an under-rated action star, as opposed to a big Hollywood name. That being said, he is still not a favourite for the role.

Jake Ashton, Entertainment Betting Expert at OLBG, said: “Bond casting always throws up surprises.

“Callum Turner’s surge in the odds shows the market is starting to settle. He has the physicality, charm and acting range and the bookies are clearly confident.”

Here are the full odds from OLBG for the next James Bond:

Callum Turner - 10/11

Aaron Taylor-Johnson - 3/1

James Nelson-Joyce - 5/1

Henry Cavill - 6/1

Jonathan Bailey - 8/1

Theo James - 10/1
