Nicole Kidman and Rupert Grint among the celebrities to name their children after weekdays

Netflix’s Wednesday shot to the big time at the end of last year, but the dysfunctional Addams Family character is not the only child to be named after a weekday.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint announced the birth of his second child in 2020, with partner Georgia Groome who is known for Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

The pair revealed that their baby girl is also named Wednesday, and confirmed that the fictional character Wednesday Addams served as inspiration, when Rupert appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

He said: “It’s a good name, isn’t it? I’m always hesitant to say it was The Addams Family, but it was…Just always loved the name, it’s a good name, memorable.”

Despite Wednesday’s recent popularity, it does not seem to be the most common weekday name for a child - with several movie stars naming their child after the sabbath day; one of these being Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman.

Nicole Kidman is notoriously private when sharing information about her kids but the Big Little Lies star has sometimes given a peep into the life of her eldest daughter Sunday, who she shares with Keith Urban, on her Instagram.

Following suit is The Only Way is Essex’s Ferne McCann who also has a daughter called Sunday. The baby girl turned five last November and has featured in many of the her mother’s programmes.

While comedian and actor Mike Myers may be known for Austin Powers, Wayne’s World and Saturday Night Live, he connected to a different day of the week after he named his daughter Sunday Molly.

The now eight-year-old was born in 2014 to Mike and his wife of over 16 years Kelly Tisdale, and contrary to her name, was born on a Friday.

Following the birth of Sunday Molly, the Canadian actor said he was the ‘happiest he had ever been in life’ and wouldn’t expect his ‘kid to come out so beautiful and lovely.’

Mike, like others, may have hedged their bets as to the character of their offspring when choosing their name based on the fortune-telling nursery rhyme ‘Monday’s Child’, which is supposed to tell the baby’s character.

The rhyme states: “Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace, Wednesday's child is full of woe, Thursday's child has far to go... Friday's child is loving and giving, Saturday's child works hard for a living and the child born on the sabbath day is fair and wise and good and gay.”
