Awkward interviews, bad jokes, sour grapes and scratchy voices. The 2023 Oscars certainly gave us plenty of moments to talk about.

The award ceremony never disappoints and this year we saw even more bizarre moments that the Oscars would most likely want us to forget.

Hugh Grant interview with Ashley Graham

The British actor spoke to the plus-size model on the champagne carpet. Ashley asked the actor the typical pre-show interview questions but he gave short and blunt answers making the exchange extremely awkward to watch.

When asked who he was most excited to see win or if he had his hopes up for anyone, Hugh answered: "No one in particular." If this wasn’t cringeworthy enough when Ashley asked him what he was wearing, a classic red carpet question usually passionately answered with the designer and a beautiful story behind the outfit, Hugh replied: "Just my suit."

The awkwardness didn’t stop there after the model gushed over what an amazing film ‘Glass Onion’ was. She asked the actor how fun it was to be in the film and he responded, "I’m barely in it, I'm in it for about three seconds."

It has been dubbed the most awkward moment since last year's Will Smith and Chris Rock slap. Social media users branded Hugh as 'obnoxious' and 'rude' whilst Ashley has been praised for the way she handled the encounter and continued smiling throughout.

Jimmy Kimmel  annoying Malala Yousafzai

Overall the presenter did a great job of hosting the awards but he has since been called out for seemingly harassing Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. Standing in the audience next to Malala, Jimmy asks her opinion on the Harry Styles and Chris Pine 'spitgate' drama.

Reading a question from a fan Jimmy says: "She asked, your work on human rights and education for women and children is an inspiration – as the youngest Nobel prize winner in history, do you think Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?" To which she replied: "I only speak about peace."

Jimmy then says: "You know what, that's why you're Malala and nobody else is. That's a great answer, Malala. The winner is Malala-land, everybody." Joking about her name in reference to the 2017 Oscars blunder where the film La La Land was accidentally announced the winner.

Even weirder, later on during the show someone dressed up as a ‘Cocaine bear’ from the movie, crawled down the aisle and started to pester Malala. The host who was speaking to Jessica Chastain turned and said: "Cocaine bear, leave Malala alone!" as the activist looked uncomfortable.

Fans have said that the host is a 'national disgrace' and the interaction was 'painful' to watch.

Angela Bassett reaction to losing

The actress was nominated for Best Supporting Actress along with Jaime Lee Curtis, Hong Chau, Kerry Condon and Stephanie Hsu. As it was announced that Jaime Lee Curtis had won Angela did not look impressed.

All the other nominees excitedly clapped and cheered for Jaime but Angela looked miserable and didn’t applaud the actress. Many have claimed the actress was a bit of a sore loser for not winning the award. However on the flipside some fans have praised Angela for her ‘real’ and genuine reaction.

Elizabeth Banks losing her voice

The ‘Cocaine Bear’ director almost tripped over her dress as she walked on stage to present the award for Best Visual Effects. The actress was joined on stage by the ‘Cocaine Bear’ and blamed the bear for almost tripping.

To make matters worse, Elizabeth’s voice kept cracking as she tried to speak. The actress said, "Sorry, my voice," but didn’t explain what was wrong. The actress found the funny side to the situation and later Tweeted that she had in fact woke up with no voice and shared a text message from a friend for a soothing remedy.

'When you are presenting at the (Oscars) but woke up w no voice but have nice friends.'
