'This Barbie is angry!' Now I’m not someone who is easily offended. However, watching the clip of Preacher Kent Christmas, not only offended but also angered and upset me that in 2023 the LGBTQ+ community still have to put up with people whose thoughts and opinions are completely draconian.

A video clip of a right-wing Preacher has been shared on Twitter discussing the new Barbie movie. He is calling for ‘holy judgement’ as he speaks out about the film during one of his sermons.

In the clip, Preacher Kent said: “I curse in the name of the Lord this new Barbie movie that has been released full of transsexual, and transgender, and homosexuality” he then calls for god to make ‘holy judgement’ on the film.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling star in the Barbie movie directed by Greta Gerwig which is due out on July 21. Both Margot - who is also a producer for the film - and Greta have kept the storyline tightly under wraps. The only parts of the film we know about have come straight from watching the trailers and that's not giving much away.

According to their official Regeneration website Kent and wife Candy Christmas are the founding pastors of Regeneration Nashville in Nashville, TN. Kent Christmas has been in full time ministry for 50 years, travelling extensively across the United States and abroad. They believe the Bible is ‘God's word’ and a literal ‘heaven and hell’.

Barbie as we know her is a white, blonde, heterosexual doll with a white, male, heterosexual boyfriend named Ken who both clearly love the colour pink. So why the Pastor thinks that the film is ‘full of transsexual, and transgender, and homosexuality’ can only be from the casting of the film.  The Barbie movie includes many great LGBTQ+ actors including Hari Nef, Kate McKinnon, and Scott Evans.

The company that owns Barbie, Mattel is a brand that is focused on inclusivity and states on its official website “Barbie recognises the importance of representation and is committed to doing the work to inspire the next generation.”

The company and film are all about inclusivity and representation and we cannot wait to go and see it. Even the film’s tagline says “If you love Barbie, this movie is for you. If you hate Barbie, this movie is for you.” So maybe Preacher Kent should actually go and watch the film before sharing his thoughts.

The Barbie movie is out in cinemas across the world from 21 July
