Canadian actress Samantha Weinstein has died after a two and a half year long battle with ovarian cancer. The actress is best known for role as Heather in the 2013 remake of the film ‘Carrie’ alongside actress Chloë Grace Moretz. The actress died on May 14 surrounded by her loved ones in her hometown of Toronto, Canada. 

In October Samantha married the ‘love of her life’ Michael Knutson and was on a belated honeymoon in Japan at the start of May.

Her family released a statement on her Instagram that read “Sam died on May 14th at 11:25am surrounded by her loved ones at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto."After two and a half years of cancer treatment, and a lifetime of jet setting around the world, voicing a plethora of cartoon animals, making music, and knowing more about life than most people ever will, she is off on her next adventure.”

Tributes flooded in from fans of Samantha as well as from fellow actors including Sarah Gadon who wrote: “Sam was such a bright light. It was a privilege to know her.” Samantha and Sarah both featured in the 2004 movie ‘Siblings’. 

Samantha began her acting career when she was six years old, she went on to have a successful career in both film and her TV roles included Big Girl, The Stone Age and Toronto Stories. She also started as Heather in the remake of horror movie Carrie, alongside actresses Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. 

Samantha was very open with her fans about her diagnosis and would often post updates on her social media.
