I was delighted to see that Selena Gomez has retaliated against body-shaming comments after she attended the 2023 Golden Globes. She addressed comments from online trolls regarding her physical appearance in an Instagram Live video.

Selena was joined for the video by her 9-year old sister, Gracie Elliott Teefey where she said: "I’m a little bit big right now because I enjoyed myself during the holidays." She then turned to her sister Gracie to ask her opinion and after she appeared to agree with her sister, they both burst into laughter.

Selena’s ‘date’ for the Golden Globes 2023 was her sister Gracie who was born when Selena was 20. She is the daughter of Selena’s mother Mandy Teefey and Selena’s stepfather, Brian.

This is not the first time an A-list star has spoken out about body- shaming and here at PeopleWorld, we hope it isn’t the last. Billie Eilish is one big name star who has frequently spoken out against people who have tried to body shame her.

When Billie Eilish was unveiled as the star of British Vogue’s June issue in 2021, it was a cataclysmic moment. Not only was it the first time her fans and the general public were able to get a proper look at her new platinum blonde hair, but it was as British Vogue said ‘seismic moment.’ Vogue revealed that when the cover hit Billie’s Instagram feed, "the post surpassed a million likes in just six minutes, breaking a record she herself had set earlier this year."

What made the Vogue cover so powerful was not Billie Eilish’s hair, but the custom Gucci corset that she wore, teamed with Agent Provocateur bra and underwear. Billie was showing the world what she wears to feel confident rather than what the world expects her to wear.

In the interview with Vogue, "Eilish predicted one side of the response to the shoot: ‘If you’re about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn’t you show your actual body?’ She raises her eyebrows. “My thing is that I can do whatever I want."

Another star who has been vocal about body-shaming is Lizzo. Only days ago, she addressed body shaming whilst on holiday in an undisclosed location. In an Instagram video, she said: “The discourse around bodies is officially tired,” whilst rocking a two-piece bathing suit.

Ariana Grande is another profile star who has experienced body-shaming over the years. It was back in 2015 that the singer snapped back at someone who compared her slim frame to Modern Family’s Ariel Winter. The tweet said: "I got asked if I’d prefer Ariel Winter or Ariana Grande lol. It would definitely be Ariel Winter-curves are sexy, sticks aren’t."

Ariana was so upset by this tweet that she herself took to social media to write a condemnation of how women’s bodies are compared and objectified.
