Although King Charles is scheduled to arrive at Westminster Abbey at 11am this morning for his Coronation, guests have already been getting comfortable for the ceremony from 7.15am.

Among the keen celebrities were Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson, who made sure they had plenty of time to soak in this historic day - the first Coronation in 70 years.

The British actors have each had close friendships with the monarch for several years, so while some royal faces may have been missed off of the invitation list today, it is no shock to see Emma and Stephen supporting His Majesty.

Stephen has been close to King Charles since his first marriage to Princess Diana, as he recalls being invited to his home for afternoon tea one New Year’s Day.

Continuing the festivities in their friendship, Stephen Fry alongside Emma Thompson hosted one of King Charles’ surprise 50th birthday parties with the help of Rowan Atkinson, and the former was also invited by the late Queen Elizabeth to Buckingham Palace for another celebration.

While appearing on Graham Norton in 2017, Stephen recounted the ‘awkward’ conversation at Charles’ birthday bash when he had to explain what a ‘Prince Albert’ was to His Majesty after Emma Bunton, AKA Baby Spice, asked whether he had the intimate piercing.

King Charles was initially confused, thinking that Emma had asked him about his great-great-great grandfather, before looking to Stephen for help with the conversation.

As Charles looked for reassurance from Stephen, he also had an awkward moment with long-time friend Emma Thompson after she reportedly made a pass at him before being rebuffed.

Previously speaking to Time magazine, Emma said: “Dancing with Charles, an old friend, is better than sex. There’s a long history of relationships between Princes of Wales and actors – not just actresses, not just the rude relationships as [Charles] would say, though God knows I’ve tried. He wasn’t having any of it.”

Despite Emma’s alleged somewhat ‘rude’ advances, King Charles has previously dined at the two-time Oscar winner’s home alongside the soon to be crowned Queen Camilla.
