State of Play is Sony’s regularly scheduled show that is broadcast intermittently throughout the year.

Each one focuses on different things, with some featuring PS5 and PS4 exclusives, others third-party titles, and occasionally just a single game.

Here are some of the best games announced at the digital PlayStation event.

What was announced at Sony State of Play 2022?

State of Play kicked off with the announcement of Exoprimal, a new 2023 co-op action game from Capcom, which sees players fight dinosaurs while wearing mech suits.

A post by Capcom says: "As raptors cascade from above and Tyrannosaurus Rexes stomp through the streets, it’s up to squads of five brave Exofighters in mechanised combat armour, known as Exosuits, to fight back against the dinosaurs who threaten to push humanity toward extinction."

Sony also gave us a look at Ghostwire: Tokyo, which is due to release on the PS5 console on March 25.

The upcoming action-adventure video game developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks is set in a haunted Tokyo after the living population vanished.

Players will team up with a ghostly detective named KK to get to the bottom of the disappearance and bring its perpetrator – a masked man known only as Hannya – to justice.

There was also a brief look at Square Enix’s Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, which is due to release on March 18.

The action role-playing game developed by Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja is being published by Square Enix in celebration of the series’ 35th anniversary.

Sony teased a retro Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game collection, called The Cowabunga Collection, from Konami, which will see 13 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games in a single title.

The Cowabunga Collection is set to release on PS4 and PS5 this year.

Sony’s State of Play concluded with the reveal of the highly-anticipated Valkyrie Elysium.

The action RPG game is said to feature an epic story, beautiful environments, and new, fast-paced combat that “incorporates the Valkyrie series’ classic special attack and combo systems”.

Valkyrie Elysium is bound for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC sometime in 2022.

Unfortunately, fans of the Hogwarts Legacy game were left disappointed as the game received no mention at the Sony event.

Fans were hoping to finally see gameplay and a release date announcement during the event, but after 20 minutes, such hopes were dashed.

The upcoming action role-playing video game set in the late 1800s in the Wizarding World was first announced in the September 2020 PlayStation 5 Showcase and has been considered one of the most anticipated video games for Sony consoles.

When is the next State of Play event?

Sony aired six events in both 2020 and 2021, and on average, there is a new State of Play every two months, although this is not always the case.

If Sony follows their previous trend, we can expect to see another State of Play before the end of June.
