Savile was often praised for his charity work, and raised around £40 million for charities in his lifetime.
Some of the archive footage shows Savile expressing himself as a “voluntary helper” before adding “when nobody’s looking, I help the lassies”.
The series delves into the 70s, the attitudes towards sexual abuse and the ability of public figures to keep secrets.
Which may somehow explain how Savile fooled an entire nation for so many decades, whilst balancing fame, charity and child abuse.
