BET Awards 2023: Beyoncé and SZA lead the winners list as the two singers tie for Album of the Year

The Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles hosted the star studded BET awards on Sunday evening. The ceremony honours the year's best performances in music, TV, film and sport. The BET Awards were founded in 2001 by the Black entertainment Television network to celebrate black entertainers and other minorities across the entertainment industry, sports and philanthropy.

Pattie Labelle sang ‘Simply the Best’ in tribute to Tina Turner who recently passed but sadly forgot some of the lyrics. Although she lost out to Latto for the Best Female Hip Hop Artist, rapper Ice Spice still put on a show stopping performance.

The event celebrated 50 years of Hip-Hop with the biggest award of the night going to Busta Rhymes who took home the Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Beyoncé tied with SZA for ‘Best Album of the Year award with 'Renaissance' and SZA’s 'SOS' album. Queen Bee also took home another two awards with BET Her Award and her single Break My Soul and the Viewers Choice Award. Whist SZA also took home awards for Best Female R&B/Pop Artists and Video of the Year Award for her 'Kill Bill' music Video. 

It wasn’t just the ladies that tied for an award; Usher and Chris Brown tied for the Best Male R&B/POP Artist. Other winners of the night included Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for Best Movie and Kendrick Lamar took home the award for Best Male Hip Hop Artist.
