Bonds like these will certainly last a lifetime for some as they (or their parents respectively) have gone the extra mile to secure their Hollywood allies as their children’s godparents.

Lady Gaga and Elton John

Elton John’s two sons Zachary and Elijah with his partner David Furnish were ‘Born This Way’ in terms of Lady Gaga being named their godmother.

Lady Gaga and Elton became close friends after performing in the 2010 Grammy Awards together and the two boys even reportedly sent a letter and flowers to the Hold My Hand singer after she won an Oscar in 2019.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal’s parents American film director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner were good friends with Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis before his birth.

The actress, who recently won the Academy Award for Supporting Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once, was given the role of Jake’s godmother.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger

Jake himself has the honour of being a godparent to Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams’ daughter Mathilda.

The two actors (Jake and Heath) formed a close bond when working together on Brokeback Mountain in 2005 and remained close until the latter actor’s tragic death in 2008.

Actress and model Cara Delevingne is in good company as she was given 16 godparents at her christening.

Of these, Golden Globe winner Joan Collins was named as one of her godmothers following her long-standing friendship with Cara’s parents Pandora and Charles.

Meryl Streep and Billie Lourd

Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd has once been asked ‘what is the most magical thing about her godmother’, to which she replied, “I mean, she is Meryl Streep!”

Before Carrie’s death in 2016 which prompted Meryl to step into her godmother role, the two actresses were very good friends with Meryl even taking on a fictional role of the Star Wars actress in 1990.

Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston

These two ‘Queens of Soul’ music were inevitably drawn together with Aretha meeting Whitney when she was a child.

Aretha, who was close to Whitney and her mother, was often linked as the ‘I Have Nothing’ singer’s godmother, however Cissy Houston (Whitney’s mother) confirmed that her daughter’s actual godparent was singer Darlene Love.
