American rapper Jack Harlow has reportedly succeeded in ‘pursuing’ a romance with British singer Dua Lipa after writing a song about her.

Jack released his album Come Home the Kids Miss You in May 2022, containing a song named after the ‘New Rules’ singer, making fans question whether Jack was interested in Dua or if it was just the best choice for a rhyme.

The song which states, “Dua Lipa, I’m tryna do more with her than do a feature,” was apparently given the go ahead by Dua, after Jack approached her for permission.

While many people would be flattered to not only be serenaded by one of 2022’s breakout artists and to have a song written about them, Dua simply replied, ‘I mean it’s not my song. I suppose it is ok.”

An interesting point to make is that until this month, Dua and Jack had never really met. The pair were then introduced to one another on 3 December, seven months after the song release, at Variety magazine’s Hitmakers brunch in LA.

A ‘Page Six’ source suggested that Jack Harlow ‘was very interested in her, and was going to strongly pursue [the romance]’ with the First Class crooner flying to meet Dua after her Jingle Ball performance in New York just six days later.

So, did Jack Harlow woo Dua Lipa with his song and foreshadow his potential dates? Here are three other singers who penned lyrics about people they ended up in relationships with.

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley

Not many people would know this, but Billy Joel revealed he wrote his famous tune ‘Uptown Girl’ for his then-girlfriend model Elle McPherson but also about his future girlfriend and wife Christie Brinkley.

Christie and Elle were some of the top models of the 1980s and although Elle was in a relationship with the American singer, Christie ended up being in the music video and was evidently wooed by the lyricist.

Not only did Christie feature as the ‘Uptown Girl’ riding off into the sunset on a motorcycle with Billy, but the pair ended up marrying in 1985 for nearly a decade.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello

Although they are no longer together, Shawn Mendes confessed in his 2020 Netflix documentary ‘Wonder’ that every song he had written since 2014 was written about Camila Cabello.

Shawn’s confession about certain songs such as ‘Treat You Better’ and ‘If I Can’t Have You’, shocked the ‘Havana’ singer, who ended up in a relationship with the Canadian performer from 2019 to 2021.

Therefore, Shawn’s ambition to woo her, or at least air his feelings, to his long-time friend and collaborator worked.

Eric Clapton and Pattie Boyd

The 1976 song ‘Wonderful Tonight’ known for its signature guitar riff and emotional lyrics are attributed to Eric Clapton’s then-girlfriend and future wife Pattie Boyd.

Eric penned the lyrics as Pattie was getting ready for their date to go to watch Buddy Holly, and was worried about what to wear.

Despite already being with his love, the lyrics obviously secured their relationship as the pair were married for a decade between 1979 and 1989.
