Around this time of year, many Elvis fans make the pilgrimage to Graceland, not only his one-time family home but now an almost church-like gathering place of everything Elvis-related. Graceland, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is a historic mansion that served as Elvis Presley's residence from 1957 until his death in 1977 and has since become a beloved shrine for his fans, attracting over half a million visitors annually.

Graceland offers guided tours that allow visitors to step into the life and legacy of the King of Rock 'n' Roll. The tour takes guests through the lavishly decorated rooms of the mansion, showcasing Elvis's personal effects, including his iconic jumpsuits, gold records, and elaborate jewellery. The Meditation Garden on the property is where Elvis and members of his family are laid to rest, offering a solemn space for fans to pay their respects.

Beyond the mansion, the Graceland complex includes the Elvis Presley Car Museum, featuring a collection of his automobiles, and the Elvis Presley's Memphis Entertainment Complex, which houses exhibits displaying his costumes, stage outfits, and various personal items. The complex also includes restaurants, shops, and even a soundstage where fans can immerse themselves in his music and performances.

Graceland's status as a music mecca has solidified over the years, with fans from all around the world converging to celebrate the legacy of Elvis Presley. The site not only preserves his memory but also provides a unique opportunity for fans to experience the world of one of the most influential figures in the history of popular music.

But there has been past acrimony regarding who owns not only Graceland, but the Elvis Presley estate to boot. Today, in honour of Elvis and his untimely death, we take a look at not only who is the current owner of the home, but also what on earth “Graceland Camp” is

Who owns Graceland?

Following Elvis's death on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, the ownership of Graceland transferred to his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. However, after the death of Lisa Marie in early 2023, there was an acrimonious battle once again not only about who will inherit Graceland but who also holds the remaining assets of Elvis’ estate.

Priscilla Presley had raised concerns about an amendment dated March 11, 2016, which replaced her and then-business manager Barry Siegel as co-trustees upon Lisa Marie's death. Priscilla questioned the authenticity of Lisa Marie's signature, as the document misspelt Priscilla's name and was never delivered to her during her daughter's lifetime as required by the trust terms.

Lisa Marie Presley's will initially appointed Priscilla Presley and Barry Siegel as co-trustees in 1993. However, Priscilla contested the amendment, aiming to replace her and Siegel with Lisa Marie's eldest children, Riley Keough and the late Benjamin Keough. The settlement ultimately saw ownership of Elvis' estate go to Lisa Marie’s three daughters - Riley Keough, Finley and Harper Lockwood - with Riley the sole owner now of Graceland

What is “Graceland Cam?”

Pretty much exactly what it says - a live video feed from Graceland for those around the world to tune into if they cannot afford the luxury of visiting. The camera also is used to stream special events, such as the memorial for Lisa Marie Presley, and no doubt there will be some plans in particular for the cam when people in the US wake up on the day Elvis left the building.

You can check out the live camera through the Graceland website, or through Vimeo - currently at this hour, it’s merely just focusing on the front of the home.
