Who is Justin Bieber’s mum Pattie Mallette as she tells fans ‘Hate is ugly’

The Selena Vs Hailey drama has died down since Selena Gomez defended Hailey Bieber on Instagram. The singer released a heartfelt statement explaining that the model had reached out to her after receiving death threats. Selena explained "This isn't what I stand for”.

Fans speculated that Justin’s mother Pattie Mallette made a subtle comment on the feud and wrote on twitter “Hate is ugly. Don’t be ugly”. Fans automatically took this as Pattie defending Hailey and replied “listen to her mother-in-law”. 

Who is Pattie Mallette? 

Pattie was born in Stratford Canada to mother Diane Dale and father Michael Mallet and has an older brother Chris. Pattie had an interest in acting as a child and appeared on TV shows such as the  'Romper Room' and 'Big Top Talent'. She earned awards for her singing and acting and was signed to a Toronto based talent agent, but her parents were unable to commit to taking her to auditions as the commute was too far. 

Pattie faced a turbulent few years as a teenager and started experimenting with alcohol and drugs. She began dating Jeremy Bieber at the age of 15 and gave birth to her son Justin one month before she turned 19. The couple split-up shortly after and she raised Justin with the help of her parents. 

In 2012 she released her memoir ‘Nowhere but Up’ detailing the struggles she faced growing up and her teenage years. Pattie also revealed in her book that a suicide attempt when she was 16 led to her being put on a mental ward but it was a blessing in disguise as she found God and turned her life around. 

Justin is her only son and she has encouraged his singing since he was two years old and even managed him during the early days of his career. Although the two are close now, there was a point that Justin described their relationship as ‘non-existent’.

In an interview with Billboard Justin explained that shortly after his 2014 DUI, he distanced himself from his mother. He said “I was ashamed. I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust. She’s an amazing woman and I love her.”
