Turns out that Kate Perry is a fan of one of her audience members this weekend - North West. But Meghan Markle's opinion on Katy Perry is wholly different

You can add Katy Perry to the list of musicians that have so far been confirmed for the King Charles III coronation concert, taking place on May 7 2023. The singer, seen recently as the spokesperson for Just Eat (and filling in a Snoop shaped hole in doing so), will be joining Lionel Ritchie, three remaining members of Take That and Andrea Bocelli - with Royal sources stating more will be announced shortly.

Perry is currently in the midst of a Las Vegas residency, titled Play, which began in December 2021 and is set to concluded this November, meaning that unlike some artists that claimed to be busy, Perry is taking the time out of her residency in order to play before King Charles III and other attendees to the weekend of festivities next month; though as opposed to some of the faces that have appeared during his mammoth run at the Resort World in Las Vegas, it will no doubt be a more distinguished, regal affair.

Not to say that social media royalty doesn’t count - take for example this weekend’s performance in Las Vegas, which saw Kim Kardashian in attendance, leading to Perry to invite North West on stage after being spotted in the crowd. Perry, upon sighting the Kardashian’s, asked her audience "Is that, is that North West? Oh my God, I have seen all of your TikToks! It's not her? Is it her?"

The bashful North was brought onto the stage, in which Perry was admitted to the crown princess of TikTok: “the reason I know your name is because I'm a huge fan of your TikTok. I've seen a couple of them that you've made. You're a really good dancer and I thought, what better way to be a great dancer [than] to show the world your awesome dance moves?" North responded, "Can my friends come out with me?" Katy replied, "Yeah, why not. Come on. She's got friends, she doesn't want to do it alone, this is awesome!"

This weekend’s performance also saw both Paris Hilton and Sia as the latest celebrity gig-goers to have attended the residency - a trend that seems to be on the rise after successful residencies by Adele and Britney Spears in the past - as previously Olivia Rodrigo was spotted attending a performance, while opening night saw the stars come out including her current fiance, Orlando Bloom.

Perry has alluded to hitting the road once again once her residency finishes later in the year, acknowledging recently that there are a number of people who missed out, and given the critical acclaim of the residency since starting in 2021, could we see Perry shortly after her performance at the King’s Coronation concert bringing her dopamine-dressed Play show in the United Kingdom? We know a space in London that might be able to accommodate such an event.

Royal bad blood between Katy and Meghan?

Perry might also be breathing a slight sigh of relief after the news that Prince Harry will be attending the coronation without the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. Despite both men in the respective ladies’ lives seemingly getting along (Harry and Orlando), one source informed The Daily Star that Markle is still holding a grudge after a comment made about her wedding dress by Perry in 2018.

During a promotional tour for American Idol, Perry said regarding Meghan's wedding dress that she "would've done one more fitting. I would have done one more fitting," Katy told Entertainment Tonight at the time, then adding: "I'm never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting, but I love you."

Markle took that as a slight, with an insider for the Sussex’s commenting that “Meghan is keenly aware of a comment that Katy Perry made in 2018 about her wedding dress and is notorious for holding a grudge. While the comment wasn't meant to be hurtful, Meghan felt under siege at that time."

It turns out Katy Perry critiqued a girl, but the girl quite evidently didn’t like the comments, and if rumour has it, is still clinging on to that grudge to this day.
