Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ is her highest charting solo single since ‘Diamond’ back in 2012

Rihanna is flying high at the moment thanks to her new single for blockbuster sequel film Black Panther: Wakanada Forever.

Her latest release ‘Lift Me Up’ has helped her achieve her best UK chart position in 10 years. The single for the Marvel film debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

However, her new music wasn’t able to beat Taylor Swift, whose Anti-Hero is still on top for a second week in a row.

‘Lift Me Up,’ is Rihanna’s first solo song since her last album ‘Anti’ in 2016. The lyrics pay tribute to the late Black Panther star, actor, Chadwick Boseman, who passed away from cancer in 2020.

As one would expect from a tribute, the song is very emotional and Rihanna’s voice is backed by a piano and only minimal string instruments.

Rihanna recently released a video for ‘Lift Me Up,’ which shows the singer standing on a beach at sunset before clips from Wakanda Forever flash across the screen. Rihanna wrote the track with Tems, Ludwig Goransson and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.

Singer Tems recently explained the inspiration behind the song and said: “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life.”

Rihanna has also revealed that she has been drawing her own artistic inspiration from her baby son with A$AP Rocky.

She recently discussed motherhood on the red carpet of her fourth Savage X Fenty Show and said that her baby is already inspiring her to ‘freestyle’ song when she sings to him.

Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky welcomed a baby boy in May in Los Angeles. It was announced that she was expecting her first child on January 31. Although the couple have had a friendship for years, they didn’t officially begin dating until November 2020.

The couple are reported to have held a rave-themed baby shower and some family members were believed to have flown out from Barbados.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky kept the event incredibly private and guests were not permitted to take photographs or videos.
