Rita unveiled the music video to her new song ‘You Only Love Me’ today [27 January] where she is seen to be getting ready with her bridesmaids, albeit somewhat grudgingly, for a wedding.

The upbeat pop tune comes not only two years after Rita last released music, namely the single ‘Follow Me’, but also as rumours began to circulate as to whether the British pop-star had tied the knot with Thor: Ragnarok actor and director Taika Waititi.

Taika and Rita have been linked since early 2021 when the pair were seen hanging out in Australia together, but confirmed their romantic relationship on Valentine’s Day last year with a throwback photo on Instagram, where they detailed they had ‘complicated’ their friendship by taking that next step.

As mentioned, there was word on the street at the end of summer 2022 that Rita and Taika had got married in secret as they were seen at the Eternals premiere with wedding bands, but no confirmation was provided by the ‘besties to beaus’.

Skip to the new year and Rita decides to drop the news about their wedding along with her musical comeback.

Speaking ahead of her music video premiere, Rita said: “Yes [I am married]. I am officially off the market, people. I chose to keep it more private and keep it to myself more but with my new video I am playing on what could have been…[The wedding itself] was perfect. It was exactly, exactly how I wanted.”

The British singer and the New Zealand filmmaker are not alone in wanting to keep their nuptials a secret, especially as much of their lives are shown in the public domain, as numerous other celeb couples have hidden their weddings.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively met each other on the film set of Green Lantern in 2011 and began to date under the radar.

The Hollywood super couple were married within a year but the public were not as quick to realise they had tied the knot, as someone commented, “considering that Lively and Reynolds never even revealed they were engaged, news of their wedding was a huge shocker.”

Another Mr and Mrs to marry in secret are Kate Winslet and her husband Edward Abel Smith, previously named Ned Rocknroll, who kept it so under wraps that even their parents were unaware of the ceremony. Kate’s two daughters were the only guests at the wedding.

Edward Abel Smith is the nephew to British billionaire Richard Branson and met the Titanic actress while they were staying on the Virgin boss’ private island.

Although Miley Cyrus is throwing shade to her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth with her new self-love anthem ‘Flowers’, she once carried a bouquet of flowers down the aisle when tying the knot with the Hunger Games star in secret.

Much like Rita and Taika, there were rumours that Miley and Liam were to marry in 2018 before the California fires, in which the latter couple lost their home, reportedly halted their plans.

However, a few weeks later, pictures emerged of Miley and Liam cutting their wedding cake in a small ceremony in Tennessee.
