O'Connor's next of kin have been notified, and the Met Police have confirmed that they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Tributes have been pouring in after the announcement of O'Connor's death, known for her 1990 smash hit "Nothing Compares 2 U," originally a song performed by Prince and The Family. Her family, after the news broke, wrote that they were "devastated" by the death "of our beloved Sinead."

One of the more pointed tributes however came from former The Smith's singer, Morrissey, who during his tribute took aim at the music industry itself. "There is a certain music industry hatred for singers who don't fit in," he wrote on his website, stating that she was a musician who refused to be labelled and had the courage to speak when everyone else remained quiet.

"She had only so much ‘self’ to give. She was dropped by her label after selling 7 million albums for them. She became crazed, yes, but uninteresting, never [...] Tomorrow the fawning fops flip back to their online s***posts and their cosy Cancer [sic] Culture and their moral superiority and their obituaries of parroted vomit … all of which will catch you lying on days like today … when Sinead doesn’t need your sterile slop.”
