As the tributes continue to pour in for Tina Turner, the legendary singer reportedly passed away at her home, Chateau Algonquin in Zurich, Switzerland. Two years prior to her death, Tina Turner and her husband German-born Edwin Bach reportedly paid $76 million for a waterfront estate overlooking Lake Zurich.
The Daily Mail reports that “Swiss news outlets reported when Turner bought the home, that tennis superstar Roger Federer had also considered buying the property before settling on a different home in the same community of Staefa Village-outside Zurich.”
Tina Turner first met her husband Edwin Bach, 16 years her junior in 1985. According to Sky News, Tina Turner once told Oprah Winfrey “it was love at first sight when he was sent to pick her up from an airport in Germany.” Tina said to Oprah: “He had the prettiest face. You could not miss it,” she said.
Oprah Winfrey has shared two tribute posts to Tina Turner on her Instagram and in her first post said: “I started out as a fan of Tina Turner, then a full-on groupie, following her from show to show around the country, and then, eventually we became real friends. She is our forever goddess of rock ‘n’ roll who contained a magnitude of inner strength that grew throughout her life. She was a role model not only for me but for the world. She encouraged a part of me I didn’t know existed.”
In her second post on Tina Turner, Oprah Winfrey recalled how she was given the chance to join Tina onstage during her ‘Wildest Dreams’ tour. Oprah said: “Dancing on stage with her in Los Angeles was the most fun I ever remember having stepping out of my box. Tina lived out of the box and encouraged me and every woman to do the same.”
Tina was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, USA, in 1939 and moved to Switzerland back in 1995. In 2013 she married music producer Edwin Bach and both David Bowie and Oprah Winfrey were reportedly two of the high profile guests at the wedding.
When it comes to how much Tina Turner was worth, Celebrity Net Worth have put the singer’s late fortune at $250 million. In Touch Weekly reported that “In 2021, the songstress sold her likeness, music and image rights to BMG for a sum of $50 million.”
