Despite a failed attempt to celebrate the release of “Utopia” at the Pyramids of Giza, Travis Scott successfully completed his rescheduled release show at Rome’s Circus Maximus midweek - leading to calls for gigs to be stopped at the heritage site.

The show was already controversial with the appearance of Scott’s ‘mentor,’ Kanye West, during the proceedings, but crowd issues once again have dogged the “Astroworld” performer with Italian police stating that 60 people were injured at the concert.

Things spiralled out of control after what is being referred to by euronews as a “suspected pepper spray incident,” leaving dozens of fans injured and approximately 60 in need of medical treatment during a particularly “raucous” moment during the show.

Reports also claim that a 14-year-old was also hospitalised after falling from a four-metre height after trying to enter the Circus Maximus to watch the show, attempting to elude security - still an occurrence that happens at Scott concerts and viewed as one of the issues during his “Astroworld” tour, including the tragedy in Houston in 2021.

Over 60,000 people attended the show, leading to the area recording some seismic activity based on the volume of people coupled with the volume of the show itself. That has now led to calls for concerts to now be banned from the historic landmark due to the delicate nature of the structure.

Alfonsina Russo, director head of the Colosseum Archeological Park, has called for an end to performances at the Circus Maximus, told CNN that “The Circus Maximus is a monument. It is not a stadium, not a concert hall. These mega rock concerts put it at risk, including the Palatine Hill nearby,” she said. “Rock concerts should be held in stadiums so as not to endanger public safety.”
