Will there be a season 3 of Euphoria? which cast members will return - and when next season could be on TV

The hotly-anticipated finale of Euphoria had viewers glued to their screens on Monday as many of the season’s biggest conflicts came to a head.

Many fans were left wondering what else might be in store for the teen drama and if there will be a third season.

What is Euphoria about? What happens in Euphoria?

The show, based on the Israeli mini-series of the same name, follows a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex trauma and social media.

It focuses on the relationship between recovering addict Rue (Zendaya) and new-in-town Jules, who are trying to find their place in the world.

Rue is a 17-year-old drug addict, with mental health issues and her life hasn’t been going according to plan. After being released from rehab, Rue goes back home, and befriends trans woman Jules.

How popular is it?

Created and written by Sam Levinson, the drama has recently become HBO’s second-most-watched show since 2004.

According to HBO, Euphoria Season two episodes drew in around 16.3 million viewers - , the best performance for any season of an HBO series over the past 18 years, other than Game of Thrones.

Will there be a season 3 of Euphoria?

Due to the success of the second instalment, HBO announced that it had renewed Euphoria for a third season in a teaser video on Instagram.

Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming said: “Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken Season two to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart.

“We couldn’t be more honoured to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into Season three."

Which cast members will return?

The show’s biggest stars, including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, Storm Reid, and Barbie Ferreira, are expected to reprise their characters for the show’s next season.

Zendaya’s Spider-Man co-star and real-life boyfriend Tom Holland has also been tipped to feature in season three after he expressed interest in a cameo in the series.

When will the third season of Euphoria be released?

We can expect to see season three on our screens in either late 2023 or early 2024, although a release date hasn’t yet been confirmed.

The first seasons were separated by three years, with two specials arriving in 2020.

The second season was delayed after production shut down three days before filming started due to the Covid pandemic.

However, with restrictions now easing, Covid is unlikely to impact the production of a third season.
