The Great British Bake Off is a national delicacy, with judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood adding equal measures of heat and sweet to the iconic tent.

Paul’s fiery remarks have kept this year’s bakers striving for perfection, as Crystelle almost fainted when she got the Hollywood handshake of approval.

The remaining three bakers will now battle it out in the finals of this year’s Bake Off, as the Channel 4 show crowns it’s Queen or King of GBBO 2021.

So, whose bakes and cakes could see them clinch the coveted cake stand? This is what you need to know.

When is the Bake Off finals 2021?

The Bake Off will conclude in the grand finale this week, as the finals air on Tuesday 23 November at 8pm on Channel 4.

Who is left in the competition?

There are three bakers battling it out for a place in the finals:

  • Chigs, 40, a car production operative from Liverpool
  • Crystelle, 26, a client relationship manager, of London
  • Giuseppe, 45, a chief engineer from Bristol

Who is favourite to win the Bake Off 2021?

Unfortunately, due to the pre-recorded nature of the show and former issues with leaked results, it is hard to find bookmakers offering odds.

However, there are still a number of outlets offering opinions of who could win.

German baker Jurgen was the firm favourite to win this year’s series, as fans joked he could even give the judges a run for their money.

However, he was axed from the tent in a shocking semi-final result which left the other three bakers speechless.

For the majority of the series, Italian son-of-a-baker Giuseppe has been the second expected winner. The engineer who lives in Bristol reckons his career has given him an eye for detail and structural knowledge which has played in his favour during his time in the tent. He’s been awarded Star Baker twice.

Underdog Chigs got off to a slow start in the competition, but won Star Baker in week four and has continued to improve his flavours and style. He is relatively new to baking, having taken it up as a lockdown hobby.

Crystelle, 26, was not considered a potential winner by most, but her Star Baker title in the semi finals means the 2021 title could see another Queen of the tent.

What theme will the finals be?

Keen homebakers will know that each week of the Bake Off usually has a theme, from pies to cakes and bread.

While the finals continues to follow the format of signature, technical, showstoppers, there is not usually a theme to the finals.

Instead, in previous years the three finalists have been tasked with creating Afternoon Tea spreads, with a variety of cakes, sandwiches and pastries.

What we can expect is technically challenging, multi-faceted bakes with savoury and sweet fillings.

At the end of the show, it is expected that the bakers will serve their spreads to their families and then the winner will be announced.
