Over the span of five episodes , Brian Cox explores the vastness of the universe, telling the stories of some of the epic moments that defined the universe we know today.

What is BBC’s Universe about?

Professor Brian Cox’s new series sees him journey across the vastness of space and time, revealing the epic moments of sheer drama that changed the universe forever.

“What does it mean to live a finite, fragile life in an infinite eternal universe?” said Cox at the UK premiere of Universe. “This series is a very long answer to that short question.”

The series uses state-of-the-art animation to recreate the chaos which ensued when two galaxies collided. The show will also demonstrate the power of a supermassive black hole as it flings a star across space so violently that it is still travelling millions of years later.

Episode one of the series, titled The Sun: God Star, sees Professor Brian Cox begins his epic exploration of the cosmos, beginning with the great luminous bodies that bring light and warmth to the universe, the stars. Throughout the opening episode, he looks at how stars created life and meaning in the cosmos, from the dawn of time through to the arrival of our own star, the Sun

Universe begins on BBC Two on Wednesday 27 October at 9pm.
