Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley has reacted to claims that she requested a birthday cake and 100 cupcakes in return for payment for social media exposure.

Owner of Rebecca Severs Three Little Birds Bakery in Keighley, West Yorkshire shared images of emails on her Facebook claiming that she was approached by party planners for a ‘well-known celebrity’ and were organising her 40th birthday party and needed a cake.

Although Tyldesley, 39, wasn’t named by the party planning company her name was caught up in the scandal.

Rebecca wrote “This poor celebrity apparently can't afford to pay people for their products and services. Spare a thought! What happened to women supporting women.”

In the email sent to the cake maker, the party planners requested a birthday cake with “pinks, sparkles and a touch of flamingos” and a separate birthday cake for her husband. In return, she would receive “in the form of promotion on their [the celeb's] socials with over 700k followers, as well as promoted in OK Magazine”

Catherine Tyldesley took to her Instagram stories to deny these claims. The actress appeared to be sitting in a car wearing sunglasses, a white t-shirt and a jacket, said “Cake Gate, WHAT.”

“So I had no idea those emails were being sent. I'm not working with the lovely Ok magazine on anything that I'm aware of and Neverland are an amazing company. They've supplied me with performers in the past; they're insane and they've been completely misrepresented in this matter.”

“Umm utterly bizarre, don’t really know what to say I hope the cake lady got the exposure she was craving. Whilst I’ve got journalists knocking on my front door while my kids are playing in the front room. Dead nice, thanks for coming.”
