The Lord of The Rings fellowship might need to worry about Sauron a little less, and Clarkson a little more

He may be a lightning rod for controversy, but Jeremy Clarkson still manages to pull an audience wherever he may work - and viewing figures presented by Barb have confirmed that the former Top Gear host has broken Amazon Prime Video’s record for most viewed television show on the platform.

The first episode of Clarkson’s Farm Season 2, which premiered on the streaming platform earlier this month, saw a whopping 4.3 million viewers tune in to the debut episode with its closest competitor the big-budget Lord Of The Rings: The Rings of Power earning 3.2 million views when it premiered in 2022.

Such has been the (somehow) endearing cult of personality that Clarkson has managed to create for himself, despite his cause celebre with remarks about Meghan Markle in his Sun column, that his series also bested ITV juggernaut Love Island and the annual BRITs as the most viewed programme on streaming services for February in the UK.

Statistics also provided by FlixPatrol broke down that Clarkson Farm Season 2 was the top viewing Amazon Prime Video series from February 28 2023 to present, toppling another Amazon Prime Original The Rig, which held the top spot from January 8 2023. Those figures tell a different story however when it comes to Jeremy Clarkson’s global appeal.

According to FlixPatrol, it is the John Krasinski led TV series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan that is still the most popular Amazon Prime series worldwide, with The Lords Of The Rings spin-off still a second favourite for Amazon Prime viewers worldwide. So while Jeremy Clarkson might be breaking records in terms of UK viewing figures, his appeal still seems to be one that is distinctly British.

What are the most viewed programmes and films on streaming services in the UK so far in 2023?
