Coronation Street legend Jimmi Harkishin has denied stealing a pot of paint from the hardware store B&Q and claims it was all just a misunderstanding.
The actor, 59, who is best known for playing Dev Alahan in the ITV soap was reportedly confronted by a security guard in B&Q Manchester. According to The Mirror the actor was taken into a back room on Tuesday (June 4) after being suspected of shoplifting a pot of paint. This allegedly resulted in the actor being handed a letter banning him from the DIY store.

Hide AdA source told the publication: “He was taken to the back room and held there for ten-15 minutes. The cameras were watching him the whole time and the staff weren’t bothered about who he was. He was treated just like everyone else.”
However, Jimmi Harkiskin has denied the allegations and is reportedly appealing the ban. The actor has claimed it was a misunderstanding over a sample pot of paint he had bought from another shop.
The actor certainly isn’t the first star to be accused of shoplifting. Back in 2001 actress Winona Ryder was caught on camera stealing an estimated $4,760 worth of clothes and accessories from Saks Fifth Avenue. Lindsay Lohan was accused of stealing a necklace worth over $2,500 from a Venice (2011) and TV star Stephanie Pratt was accused of taking $1,300 worth of merchandise (2006).
A sample pot of paint seems like a petty crime compared to what some of these celebrities were accused of stealing. However, it is still a criminal offence no matter the cost of the item. We will have to see whether or not B&Q will overturn Jimmi’s ban and he will be able to get back to doing his DIY.
