Emma Willis says she's liquidised her Christmas meal which makes us feel sad

It was a step too far from Emma Willis, although she did have her reasons

The one meal of the year that gives carte blanche to eat whatever you want and Emma Willis has to go and ruin things by liquidising her Christmas meal.

You read that correctly. The lovely Emma Willis (46), who we know and like from her years of presenting work on Big Brother and The Voice UK, has taken the holy grail of meals and disintegrated it into a blended mess. Yuck.

However, it turns out it was for a very good reason. The former model and hugely successful presenter was experiencing tonsillitis at the time.

She explained all at a press junket ahead of the return of The Voice Kids, which she hosts alongside judges Danny Jones, Pixie Lott, Will.i.am and new judge Ronan Keating.

Emma said: "I once had tonsillitis at Christmas, so I blended my Christmas dinner. It was f**king delicious."

"Like a Christmas dinner shake?" Pixie probed.

Emma replied: "Like baby food."

Having a case of tonsillitis does rather change the optics for Emma blending her food. And doctors do advise eating soft and mushy textures when you have the painful illness. Yet, she could have stuck to the mashed potato with gravy and/or eating the soup or broth on offer.

Liquidising the entire meal still seems too drastic. Imagine the turkey in a smooth paste? Imagine the Brussels sprouts as puree? Can you even conjure up the horror of a pig in blanket as a pulp?

It's enough to make you feel a little nauseous and this is without having the horrible sickness of tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils at the back of your throat. It is a common childhood illness, but teenagers and adults can get it too.

Emma, we understand your rationale, but it was still a mistake.

The Voice Kids returns to ITV on Monday, December 26 at 8:30pm.
