Kate Winslet led the way at the Bafta TV awards on Sunday night where she clinched the Best Actress accolade for her role in I Am Ruth, where her co-star was none other than her daughter Mia Threapleton.

The Bafta winner’s titular role was maybe too close to home in the season three opener as Kate embraced a mother who witnessed her teenage daughter retreat as ‘she becomes consumed by the pressures of social media’.

When collecting the prize in the Royal Festival Hall, Kate thanked her ‘brilliant daughter’ who critics believe is following in the footsteps of her Titanic actress mother, and urged people to combat harmful media.

In light of Kate celebrating her win with her doppelganger daughter and making a rare appearance with her husband Edward Abel Smith, PeopleWorld takes a look at their family.

Who is Mia Threapleton?

Kate Winslet became a mother at the age of 25 when she welcomed Mia with her first husband director Jim Threapleton in October, 2000, before the couple divorced the following year.

As mentioned, Mia has been following in her Oscar winning mother’s footsteps as she has appeared in several films and television shows from a young age.

Mia’s first role was in Alan Rickman’s 2014 period drama film ‘A Little Chaos’ in which her mother Kate took on the leading part alongside the likes of Helen McRory, Stanley Tucci and Rickman himself.

Despite being born in London, Mia’s credits span both sides of the pond as she starred in the Italian film Shadows and American TV show Dangerous Liaisons, before returning to the UK for Channel 4’s I Am.

It must be noted that Mia reportedly suffers from dyslexia and has previously spoken out about how the learning disability helped her to grab her audition for Shadows as she read it slowly and steadily to absorb everything.

Who is Edward Abel Smith?

While Kate welcomed her only daughter with Jim Threapleton, she went on to have two other children namely Joe Mendes with director Sam Mendes and Bear Blaze Winslet with her now-husband Edward Abel Smith.

Edward met Kate through his uncle Richard Branson when the pair were on vacation on Necker Island in August 2011; just as Rose and Jack were separated by a tragedy in Titanic, Kate and Edward were brought together by a disaster when lightning hit one of the Virgin mogul’s homes.

Many people may not be aware of who Edward Abel Smith exactly is, accounting for the couple’s relatively private life, but also because the stay-at-home Dad used to be known by a very different name.

Born Abel Smith, the 45-year-old grew up as ‘Ned’ and one day changed his name legally to Ned Rocknroll, which was how he was known when he met Kate in 2011.

Through the early years of marriage, Kate and Ned discussed his name with the actress saying: “I got to the point where I'm like, you know, I'm filling in doctors' forms and it says 'mother's name' and 'father's name,' and I'm like, 'Honey ... are we going to keep going?' And he's like, 'Yeah, you're right. I'll just change it back.'”

The pair currently live in a beachside £4 million mansion in a Sussex village with Kate’s three children.
