Maisie Smith says that family support her relationship with Max George despite the 13 year age gap

Maisie Williams, 21, and Max George. 34, appeared on the Thursday December 1, episode of Loose Women. It was the first TV appearance as a couple for the former EastEnders actress and The Wanted singer.

The couple made waves when they revealed their relationship to the public with many speculating about the 13-year age gap between them. While on the show Maisie Smith said her mother Julia had ‘never seen me so happy’ when talking about the relationship. Maisie said: ‘The people we allow in our lives are so happy. Mam has never seen me so happy. That’s all that really matters to me.’

The couple were asked about whether they plan on living in Manchester or London, Maisie said: “We’re going to live in London, he’s got somewhere in Manchester which I’m doing up. I’m doing a tour at the moment for Strictly Ballroom.

“At Christmas we’re in Guildford, so I’m gonna drag Max and my family and we’re gonna stay in a cabin. I bought a little tree from pound land and we’re going to make it really nice.”

In November 2022, the couple made their first joint interview as a couple for Hello! Magazine where they spoke about their relationship and addressed their age gap. Maisie said: "People ask me: ‘Do you notice it?’ and I never have. We’re so like-minded. I’ve got friends in their 30s and 40s. You connect with who you connect with."

Max added: "It never enters my mind. Maisie has already done so many things that I’m in awe of – I look up to her."

The couple first met on set of Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, however, their relationship didn’t start until the show’s live arena tour in January 2022. Masie, who is currently starring as Fran in Strictly Ballroom: The Musical, told the magazine: "When I’d speak to my mum, I’d always bring Max up; he was one of my closest friends, but there was never anything more.”

Max told the magazine that sparks first flew on a post-tour holiday to Portugal’s Algarve with some of the cast and crew of the Strictly tour. Max said Hello! Magazine:  "Towards the end of the holiday, I could feel I was looking at her differently. I thought: ‘What’s happening here?’ I was pretty nervous to see if it was reciprocated.”

Smith and George aren’t the first celebrity couple to shock people with their age-gap with it being recently revealed that Chris Evans, 41 is dating Alba Baptista, 25. The revelation was met with much scrutiny with many pointing out the 14 year age gap as the reason.
